Areim recipient of the Energy Genius 2024 Award for inspiring energy efficiency measures in three Finnish office properties

11 December 2024

We are delighted to announce that Areim has received the prestigious Energy Genius of the Year 2024 Award for effective and inspiring energy efficiency measures implemented in four restaurant kitchens across three Finnish office properties. The award is presented annually by the Finnish Energy Authority, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, and Motiva.

The initiative was part of a pilot project in collaboration with tenant Safera Oy, which involved the implementation of their FlowHero Demand Control on kitchen hoods in two restaurants in the Allonharja office property in Espoo. This quickly expanded to two additional restaurants in the Kravattitehdas and Vallila Corner properties, located in Vallila, Helsinki. The FlowHero Demand Control system carefully monitors air quality and kitchen usage in real time, boosting ventilation when needed and identifying opportunities to save energy during off-peak hours. This has resulted in reduced energy consumption, enhanced indoor air quality, and increased tenant satisfaction.

The annual energy savings across all three assets amount to 250 MWh, reducing the carbon footprint by 36 tonnes per year and decreasing energy consumption by 59 percent from previous levels. For reference, 1,000 sqm of office premises uses 35 MWh per year. This data has been verified by a third-party building automation system specialist from Korjauspartnerit Oy.

The system is quick to install in both existing and new buildings, making it a scalable solution that improves energy efficiency and reduces environmental impacts, in line with Areim’s sustainability goals.
